Blues Licks

Lick is a small musical idea that you can apply into different musical situations.

First Lick
Penta Am

A minor pentatonic with cromatic ApProach

Here we used the Am pentatonic. Notice that the target note is the note E (5th of A7) and the note is achieved by the cromatic approach of the note D#.

Second Lick
D7 Arpeggio

D7 Arpeggio with chromatic approach

we also can use arpeggios to improvise. In this case we used a D7 with a chromatic line A A# B (or H in Germany) to approach C (7th of D7).

Third Lick
E7 With open strings

E7 with open Strings

There many possibilities to play this example. The open strings (E and B) you can use your pick or you can play with m (middle Finger) and a (Ring Finger).

Fourth Lick
E7 turnaround

E7 turnaround

this a cliche in Blues. We use this lick to finish parts or finish your solo. Pay attention to the triplets not to play them as eight note.
